Send invoices from your own domain
Point Docs are versioned. This is v1.0.0.0.
Applies to: Workspace administrators who control the business domain.
Product dependency: Point must first generate the exact sending records for the selected email-delivery service. This article deliberately does not invent SPF, DKIM, return-path, or tracking values. The exact record values will come from Point once the sending feature is built and verified.
What this setup does
Domain authentication lets Point send invoice emails on behalf of your business while mailbox providers can verify that the messages are authorized. Your customer sees your business as the sender, while Point handles delivery, status tracking, and retries through the configured email service.
Before you start
- Use a domain you own, such as yourcompany.com. A free consumer address such as Gmail or Outlook cannot be authenticated through DNS.
- Have permission to edit the domain's Domain Name System (DNS) records, or ask the person who manages the domain to complete that step.
- Choose the exact sender address the business will use for invoices, such as billing@yourcompany.com.
- Do not remove an existing mail record. Add only the records Point shows, and merge Sender Policy Framework (SPF) values when Point explicitly instructs you to do so.
Connect and verify the domain
- In Point, open Configuration, then Email sending. Select Add sending domain.
- Enter the business domain and the sender address, then select Generate records.
- Keep Point open. In a separate tab, sign in to the company that manages your DNS.
- Create each DNS record exactly as Point displays it. Copy the record type, host or name, value, and any priority without changing punctuation or spacing.
- Save the DNS changes, return to Point, and select Verify domain.
- When the status becomes Verified, send a test invoice email to an address you can check.
- Confirm that the test arrives, the sender name and reply-to address are correct, and the attached invoice opens.
Expected result
Point shows the sending domain as Verified. New invoice messages use the approved business sender. Delivery status appears against each message or invoice after the sending mechanism is implemented.
If verification does not complete
| Check | What to do |
|---|---|
| Record text | Compare every host, type, value, and priority with Point. |
| Duplicate SPF | Do not publish a second SPF record; follow Point's merge instruction. |
| Proxy setting | Use DNS-only where the provider requires it. |
| DNS delay | Wait for the provider to publish the change, then verify again. |
| Wrong domain | Confirm the sender address uses the domain being verified. |
| Mail not received | Check spam, recipient spelling, bounce status, and the test log. |
DNS provider steps
Provider-specific steps for Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace Domains, and other providers used by Point customers are still being prepared. The record values will always come from Point; the provider sections will only explain where to paste them.
